FREIGHT FIELD NOTES

What to include in a cross-docking request

XDockHub · October 13, 2026

Give warehouses the details they need to confirm availability and quote the complete job.

A useful request starts with the place and the time. Include the ZIP code, your search radius, the expected arrival, and the bid deadline. If outbound pickup is already arranged, include that time too.

Describe what is on the trailer. Pallet or piece count, total weight, commodity, dimensions, freight condition, and trailer type help a warehouse assess whether its equipment and team fit the job.

Call out special handling requirements. Temperature control, oversized pieces, fragile freight, damaged pallets, and unusual loading arrangements need explicit confirmation. Never assume a facility can accept a restricted load.

Ask for a complete price. An offer should explain unloading, reloading, storage, labor, materials, and any after-hours charges that are included. Review exclusions before accepting.

On XDockHub, these details travel with the request so matching providers can review the same requirements. The service window should cover arrival, and the offer must expire no later than your bid deadline.

Before dispatching a driver, confirm the street address, actual route, access instructions, equipment, and operating hours with the selected provider. ZIP-center distance is a matching estimate rather than road mileage.
